Biopharma hiring in New York has picked up sharply. BioSpace reported on 29 October that job postings in the New York part of its Pharm Country hotbed rose 109% between 1 October 2025 and 26 October 2026.
The numbers
The growth has been building through the autumn. Postings were up 32% from August to September, and up another 19% from September to October, counting October up to the 26th. BioSpace's article lists eight employers with open roles in the state, and one of them accounts for a large share of the activity.
Who is hiring
Regeneron has about 300 openings. The examples BioSpace highlights span the business: a senior principal scientist in bispecifics and antibody engineering at Tarrytown, a senior device development engineer in East Greenbush and a quality control analyst in Rensselaer.
Amgen has about 20 openings, including a senior medical science liaison in inflammation, a senior oncology specialist covering Lower Manhattan and a regional patient access lead for the North East, both in New York City. Sanofi is hiring at Pearl River for a manager of GMP facility asset readiness and HSE, a deputy director of manufacturing operations and production technicians.
The rest are mostly field roles. Daiichi Sankyo is looking for breast oncology territory managers in Albany and in the Long Island, Queens and Brooklyn area. Lundbeck wants account managers in Rochester and Schenectady. AbbVie is recruiting an oncology field medical director for the North East, and Novo Nordisk a rare endocrine medical liaison, both based in New York City. BioSpace also lists Syngene, though the engineering and facilities roles it names are in Baltimore.
What the mix tells us
Three groups stand out. Field medical roles (MSLs and medical directors) appear at Amgen, AbbVie and Novo Nordisk. Territory and account management roles appear at Daiichi Sankyo and Lundbeck. Manufacturing and quality roles appear at Regeneron and Sanofi. Early research roles are a smaller part of this particular list.
The bigger picture
The New York figures sit alongside a quieter layoff picture nationally. BioSpace's Q3 count found 2,568 people affected by cuts, about 90% fewer than a year earlier. At the same time, manufacturing plants elsewhere are still being closed, so employers adding production and quality staff in New York may find experienced people coming out of other regions. Posting counts measure demand, not hires, and one large employer can move a regional figure a long way, so the trend is worth watching over the next quarter before reading too much into it.
What it means for hiring
- In our view, field medical and specialist sales talent in the North East is likely to get more competitive as several large companies hire into the same territories at once.
- Teams competing with a 300-opening employer for the same candidates will need a clear reason to choose them: scope, speed of decision and a named hiring manager tend to matter more than brand.
- Manufacturing and quality hiring in New York could draw on people leaving plants that are closing elsewhere, so relocation support is worth budgeting for.
